Timelines, the process, and trends:  Kari Buttenhoff, Compliance Manager at Christianson PLLP, will discuss the timelines of the verification process, the details of what the process looks like and procedures generally completed, and also the trends and errors noted through our first engagements and how to set yourself up for success. 

Monitoring plans, calibrations and process equipment trends:  Paul Mordorski, Principal and Professional Engineer with Merjent, Inc., will cover the required monitoring plans including what is reviewed during the verification process, how it is used, and what makes a successful monitoring plan.  He will also discuss meter calibration requirements under the LCFS program and the issues we have seen with processing equipment and things to check to avoid qualified positive opinions. 

Proactively Leveraging Ethanol’s Low Carbon Value:  ACE is working at the state and federal level to educate lawmakers about opportunities to increase ethanol use through Clean Fuel Policy.  Brian Jennings,  top executive at the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) will give a brief update on this activity including building recognition around the Midwestern Clean Fuels Initiative’s policy blueprint to encourage new low carbon fuel markets.

Kari Buttenhoff is a Manager and CPA with Christianson, PLLP, a full-service public accounting firm serving the renewable fuel industry for over three decades. Kari holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from St. Cloud State University and began with Christianson right out of college.

Her first project with the firm was to research the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) and she has been working with the firm in developing the RFS and various services that have been added in relation to the RFS since 2007, including most recently LCFS verifications. She remains active in traditional accounting and specializes in audit, review and consulting services for clients in agriculture and renewable fuels. She is currently the manager of Christianson’s Compliance Department, with special expertise in RIN consulting and attestation compliance, and LCFS verifications as well as other renewable fuel compliance programs.

Paul Mordorski is a Principal and professional engineer with Merjent, Inc. where he provides environmental permitting and compliance services to renewable energy companies. Mr. Mordorski has been serving the renewable energy industry since 2000.  He has performed third party engineering reviews for dozens of renewable fuel facilities throughout the United States and low carbon fuel standard (LCFS) pathway applications and verifications under the California and Oregon LCFS programs.  Paul is also an accredited lead verifier under the California LCFS for renewable fuel pathway applications.

Brian Jennings is the fourth generation to help raise cattle and crops on land his family homesteaded in South Dakota in 1907. Before becoming the top executive at the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) in 2004, Brian served as an advisor to a U.S. Senator and worked for a South Dakota farm organization – jobs which enabled him to help enact legislation to support farmers, ranchers, and renewable fuels from inside and outside the Beltway. Today, Jennings works with ACE members, who represent the heart and soul of the U.S. ethanol industry, to feature the personal stories and authentic people who are providing clean fuel and valuable food to a growing world.
