While partisan divisions continue to dominate the debate about our nation’s energy future, legislators in St. Paul are considering a proposal that can unite our state behind a clean, homegrown energy opportunity. By incentivizing fuel stations to offer higher blends of biofuels and expanded E15 sales, Minnesota can fuel a more prosperous and sustainable future. When drivers fill their vehicles at the pump, they usually purchase 10 percent ethanol blends. By standardizing 15 percent blends, drivers can save three to ten cents more per gallon. At a time where our state’s economy will need recovery from the pandemic, Minnesotans are looking for relief wherever it may come. The money saved at the pump will help fuel other aspects of the Read More...
Reinvestment and Risk Management
As seen in Ethanol Producer Magazine: While some ethanol plants are struggling to cover their operating expenses, Connie Lindstrom, senior biofuels analyst with Christianson CPAs & Consultants, says there is also reason for optimism in the industry. “There are plants that are hanging in there and they’re doing fine,” she says. Lindstrom presented Christianson’s industry benchmarking numbers at the 2019 Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo in June and says the data doesn’t point to a specific factor for plants’ success or failure, such as size or location. “We have solidly performing plants that are any size or that are in many locations,” she says. “There are ways to be successful, even in times like this where the margins are so tight. Ethanol Co-Product Trends for 2015
Data gathered from a wide variety of plants across the US through our Biofuels Benchmarking program allows us to explore the impact of ethanol co-product trends. It reveals that a steady chunk of ethanol plant revenue is derived from a diversifying mix of co-products. In fact, focusing on achieving the right mix of co-product can ultimately result in higher (and more consistent) earnings on each bushel of feedstock purchased. Corn recapture percentages (a measure of co-product revenue dollars per dollar of feedstock cost) reached all-time highs during 2013, and have maintained a steady or increasing percentage for the past four years. Information about ethanol co-product trends helps answer a number of vital questions for anyone Read More...
